On 17 and 18 December 2014, under the motto “East meets West”, an international conference on innovative education will take place in the Korean city of Incheon. Discussions will concentrate on the question of how educational content and technologies can be linked together in the future. Another focal topic at the event will be the promotion of reading. Some 300 participants will attend the conference, including education experts, politicians and CEOs, as well as artists, illustrators and employees of children’s publishers.

Juergen Boos, Director of the Frankfurt Book Fair, Yoo Jeong-bok, Mayor of Incheon, and Kim Jong-deok, Korean Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism, will open the conference at 10.00 am on 17 December. The speakers will include Mark West, UNESCO Project Officer for education, who will give a presentation on mobile reading promotion in Africa and Asia, and Kyoung-Sook Park, Senior Territory Manager – Korea LEGO Education, who will talk about innovative new ways of learning reading and writing.

Incheon is the UNESCO World Book Capital City in 2015. Starting in April, a series of events will be held there throughout the year, dedicated to books. The conference is being organised collectively by the Asia Pacific Publishers Assosication, the Frankfurt Book Fair and LitCam. The event is a forerunner to the children’s and educational book fair being held in Incheon in December 2015.
